Job Summary

The Plant Human Resources Manager is a key member of the Sonoco team, responsible for overseeing employee relations and HR activities at designated branch plant locations. This role requires a strong understanding of federal and state laws, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with employees and management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement HR strategies to maintain a positive and productive work environment
  • Conduct employee surveys and analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement
  • Collaborate with management to communicate company policies and procedures
  • Provide training and coaching to employees on HR-related topics
  • Assist with local hourly recruiting activities, including diversity hiring and employee tracking
  • Advise and participate in employee and management counseling regarding company policies and procedures
  • Participate in the salaried and key leader selection process at the plants
  • Drive a structured interview process at the plants
  • Spot trends or concerns in hourly hiring and workforce planning and take appropriate steps to resolve them
  • Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of corporate policies and procedures and legal standards in the hiring process
  • Ensure that diversity and inclusion efforts are a part of the recruiting process at the plant level
  • Partner with plants to implement initiatives to improve Sonoco capabilities, capacity, and succession planning
  • Onboard new managers and ensure assimilation into their new roles
  • Ensure effective compensation programs are designed for the local external environment working with Corporate Compensation
  • Communicate pension and retirement programs effectively
  • Implement any compensation changes consistently using best practices
  • Ensure training of local resources on compensation and benefits occurs
  • Ensure General Wage Increases are communicated appropriately within the plant
  • Have general awareness of new laws and regulations and assist in implementation at the local level
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of the key concepts of Sonoco's talent management processes
  • Can effectively identify performance issues, as necessary
  • Conduct annual harassment and workplace violence training
  • Participate in SPS locally and within HR
  • Ensure diversity, inclusion, and unconscious bias training is complete at the plant (when this becomes available)
  • Encourage use of Sonoco University to learn about training and development resources
  • Provide support and guidance to employees with concerns or issues - problem solving, employee performance, last chance agreements
  • Apply Level A policy understanding to employee situations, e.g. occurrences
  • Provide opportunities for open discussions and meetings for complaint and conflict resolution
  • Build positive relationships with both the salaried and hourly workforce at the plants
  • Develop relationships with the local union and plant union representation
  • Ensure appropriate administration of contract
  • Work through grievances with the Labor Relations group's assistance
  • Use the relevant systems required for the day-to-day operational activities related to the role (e.g. KRONOS, SIMON, Workday)
  • Understand the key business processes that are enabled through the systems (e.g. IT requests, payroll, benefits)
  • Understand the key inputs and outputs required, how information flows through the system and how outputs are used in the broader business context
  • Establish and maintain an effective relationship with internal business partners and gain their trust and respect
  • Understand the importance of balancing the employee and the business interests
  • Ability to multitask
Requirements
  • Provide timely and accurate feedback of employee performance and address issues accordingly
  • Masters Degree Preferred
  • 7 + years direct HR experience preferably in manufacturing setting
Compensation

The annual base salary range for this role is from $98,000 to $110,250 with an annual bonus target of 7.5% of annual salary.

An annual bonus is awarded to eligible employees upon attaining various business and individual goals as defined by the Company and the department leader. This annual bonus is discretionary, and the Company has sole discretion to determine the amount of the award.
