Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Lab Processing Assistant to join our Clinical Laboratory Support team. In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of laboratory testing, directly impacting patient diagnosis and care.
Key Responsibilities- Partner with laboratory team members to maintain a positive and inclusive work environment, fostering open communication and respect for diverse perspectives.
- Perform pre-analytic specimen processing, including accurate labeling and handling of specimens.
- Operate various laboratory and office equipment, ensuring proper maintenance and calibration.
- Enter information and test orders into the laboratory computer system, maintaining accurate records and data.
- Respond to high-volume phone calls, providing accurate laboratory testing information to patients and healthcare professionals.
- Ensure correct patient identification on specimens, maintaining confidentiality and adhering to strict safety protocols.
- Document and resolve pre-analytic specimen-related issues, escalating concerns to senior team members as needed.
- Potentially prepare complex reagents, adhering to established protocols and safety guidelines.
- Manage work unit supply inventory, maintaining accurate records and ordering supplies as needed.
- Operate automated systems, ensuring seamless integration with laboratory workflows.
- Provide training and support to colleagues, promoting a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- An associate degree or high school diploma/equivalent, with 2 years of work experience in clinical laboratory and/or relevant fields.
- Associate's degree in a health or science field preferred.
- Previous experience or knowledge of computers, keyboarding, telephone operations, and office equipment desired.
- Ability to accurately read specimen labels and work with numbers to prevent mislabeling.
- Must be organized, able to prioritize, and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must possess good human relations skills and be able to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must be able to accommodate scheduling adjustments, off-shifts, holidays, and weekend work assignments.
- Requires the ability to be attentive to details and adhere to strict safety requirements for handling chemicals, reagents, and infectious agents.
