Job Summary

The Senior CT Technologist is a key member of the Imaging Department at Boston Children's Hospital, responsible for delivering exceptional patient care and contributing to the success of our team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Imaging Examinations: Performs routine and advanced imaging examinations in CT on a scheduled and emergency basis, ensuring accurate and efficient results.
  • Requisition Review: Reviews and evaluates requisitions for CT imaging procedures, abstracting data from patient charts and determining the appropriateness of the procedure prescribed.
  • Patient Identification: Identifies patients according to Hospital Policy with 2 identifiers, ensuring accurate patient identification and safety.
  • Imaging Analysis: Performs basic and advanced imaging analysis as necessary, including 3D imaging, to provide detailed and accurate results.
  • Equipment Selection: Selects appropriate equipment and technical factors to identify pathologic and normal anatomy, ensuring optimal image quality.
  • Patient Care: Assesses patients' and parents' physical and emotional status and ability to respond to instructions, developing a plan to address their specific needs.
  • Communication: Explains the examination and answers questions from patients and parents regarding the exam and radiation exposure, practicing ALARA principles.
  • Team Collaboration: Consistently provides exceptional care and service, working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Quality Control: Participates in QC/Exam Data Integrity Workflow Expectations, ensuring accurate and reliable results.
  • High Reliability Training: Practices High Reliability Training principles, identifying and reporting equipment malfunctions and contributing to a culture of safety.
  • Supportive Environment: Responds to the uniqueness of each patient, creating a supportive environment for patients and families.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Identifies, reports, and follows up on equipment malfunctions, ensuring optimal equipment performance.
  • Department Operations: Assists in organizing and maintaining daily operations of the Imaging Department, ensuring efficient and effective workflow.
  • Coding and Pre-authorizations: Determines appropriate coding for pre-authorizations as directed, ensuring accurate and timely billing.
  • Technical and Scheduling Issues: Investigates and resolves technical and scheduling problems, ensuring minimal disruption to patient care.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Performs additional responsibilities as delegated by the Modality Operations Manager, including medication administration and preparing cystogram kits.
  • Patient Scheduling: Arranges and coordinates patient scheduling with physicians and other clinical and support staff, ensuring efficient and effective scheduling.
  • Interdisciplinary Teamwork: Works with others to promote and encourage each person's contribution on the interdisciplinary team toward achieving optimal patient goals and outcomes.
  • Preceptorship and Training: Serves as a Preceptor for new staff, training fellows, residents, students, and staff in imaging procedures and techniques.
  • Mentorship: Trains CT staff in imaging examinations and dose reduction techniques, acting as a mentor to less experienced staff.
  • Departmental and Hospital Meetings: Participates in departmental and hospital meetings, contributing to the development of policies and procedures.
  • Documentation and Compliance: Completes all required documentation accurately and in a timely manner, complying with ETU and HIPAA regulations.
  • Professional Development: Furthers professional education and maintains knowledge of current regulations and standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Licensure and Certification: Maintains up-to-date licensure/certification/registration in departmental files.
Requirements:
  • Experience: 3 years of experience as a CT technologist.
  • Certification: RT/CT registered by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT).
  • Licensure: RT/CT Massachusetts State License.
  • Education: Associates Degree; Allied Health.
