PRIMARY ROLE:

  • Designs and executes tailored treatment plans for individual patients in accordance with established Physical Therapy principles. Collaborates with a multidisciplinary treatment team. The Pediatric Rehabilitation Specialist reports to the Clinical Coordinator of Rehabilitation Services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Evaluates requests for Physical Therapy services.

a. Conducts patient interviews and assesses physical condition and requirements.

2. Creates a corrective exercise and treatment regimen for assigned patients.

a. Determines appropriate equipment usage, application, and body positioning, making adjustments as needed during treatments such as exercise, gait training, soft tissue manipulation, and more.

b. Educates patients on the proper use of mobility aids and therapeutic devices.

c. Suggests modifications to the treatment plan based on ongoing assessments of patient progress.

d. Consults with physicians regarding available treatment alternatives.

3. Prepares necessary documentation as mandated by professional standards and departmental requirements, including evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.

4. Shares observations and information with nursing and interdisciplinary team members to ensure seamless coordination of patient care.

5. Provides leadership and direction to support staff involved in patient care.

6. Upholds departmental policies, procedures, objectives, and quality improvement initiatives, ensuring safety and infection control measures are followed.

a. Maintains a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

b. Familiarizes with and adheres to departmental policies and procedures.

7. Aids in the maintenance and care of departmental equipment and supplies.

8. Participates in required meetings and committees as assigned.

9. Assists in the transportation of patients to and from the Rehabilitation Department as needed.

10. Takes on responsibilities of Senior Therapists in their absence.

11. Promotes professional development through participation in educational opportunities, literature review, and workshops.

12. Responsible for completing all mandatory educational programs as required for the position.

13. Provides age-appropriate care across a diverse patient demographic.

14. Demonstrates a commitment to customer satisfaction by engaging with patients in a compassionate and attentive manner, ensuring their needs are met both physically and emotionally.

  • EDUCATION:
  • Must possess or be eligible for a Physical Therapy license in New York State at the time of employment.
  • EXPERIENCE:
  • Prior experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
  • CPR CERTIFICATION:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Requires significant physical effort; may involve lifting and assisting patients. Must be capable of lifting at least thirty (30) pounds independently and up to one hundred fifty (150) pounds with assistance.
  • EXPOSURE CATEGORY:
  • Category II. Tasks typically involve no exposure to blood or bodily fluids, though unplanned exposure may occur.
  • INFECTION CONTROL:
  • Adheres to universal precautions in all patient care activities.
