Overview of Position / Department

The City of Aurora is seeking a skilled and dedicated Traffic Signals Specialist to join its team. In this role, you will be responsible for performing skilled manual and technical work involved in the control, maintenance, and operation of the city's traffic control system.

Salary and Benefits

The salary for this position is estimated to be between $22.69-$28.37 per hour, commensurate with experience. Additionally, the City of Aurora offers a competitive total compensation package, including a well-funded General Employees Retirement Plan and access to on-site fitness center and employee well-being programs.

Job Description

In this role, you will be responsible for operating or using various tools and equipment related to traffic device maintenance functions. This includes conducting preventative maintenance inspections and making minor repairs to traffic control equipment, coordinating and scheduling routine maintenance activities, and assisting in performing skilled maintenance and construction tasks.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must possess knowledge of practices and techniques of traffic maintenance functions, applicable safety practices and procedures, and proficiency in operating aerial lift equipment. You should also have the ability to inspect and make minor repairs to traffic signal equipment, perform manual labor for extended periods of time, outside and in all weather conditions, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees.

  • Knowledge of practices and techniques of traffic maintenance functions.

  • Proficiency in operating aerial lift equipment.
Working Conditions

This position requires heavy physical work, including the ability to lift 100 pounds with or without assistance. You will also be required to frequently walk and stand, stoop, kneel, climb, push, pull, and bend. The job also involves exposure to noise, dust, fumes, street traffic, and materials used in traffic maintenance such as paint and chemicals.

This position may require overtime, weekends, and holidays in emergency situations, including snow removal. You will also be required to operate heavy equipment common to traffic signal maintenance.
