Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the design and implementation of geotechnical projects, including site investigations, laboratory testing, and data analysis.
  • Collaborate with experienced engineers to develop and maintain geotechnical models and databases.
  • Conduct field investigations, including drilling, cone penetration testing, and other geotechnical site investigations.
  • Develop and maintain reports, presentations, and other technical documents.
  • Support water balance modeling tasks and perform other duties as required.
Requirements
  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student in a four-year university program in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Recent college graduate with a degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly accurate and detail-oriented.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong initiative, organizational skills, and ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree student in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering with an emphasis on Water Resources or Environmental or Geotechnical sub-disciplines.
  • Registered Engineering Intern (EI) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT); passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam.
  • Knowledge of geotechnical instrumentation installation, operation, and monitoring systems and associated data.
  • Knowledge of geotechnical cross sections and stratigraphy development (AutoCAD or MineSight).
  • Knowledge of geotechnical site investigations, including drilling and cone penetration testing (CPT).
  • Knowledge of soil characterization, interpretation of geotechnical lab tests, and geotechnical engineering analysis.
  • Knowledge of Water Resources Engineering (Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Hydraulics, Sediment Transport).
  • Knowledge of hydro modeling tools such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, MIKE-11.
  • Knowledge of GoldSim software for application in water balance.
  • Ability to use ArcGIS tools for data visualization and analysis.
Work Environment

This is a temporary full-time paid position that usually runs from May through August. Interns are assigned to various locations in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, and Iowa, supporting our business in a variety of disciplines.

Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol-free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing as per applicable state laws.

The estimated pay range for this role is currently $/hour. Individual pay rates will be based on level of education and relevant experience.
