Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Geotechnical Staff Professional to join our team at Universal Engineering Sciences. As a Geotechnical Staff Professional, you will perform both field and technical assignments under the coaching of mid-to-senior level geotechnical engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform analysis of work according to standard geotechnical procedures on simple projects or on parts of more complex projects.
- Assist with writing reports on routine projects, with senior review of Geotechnical Project Managers, PE's and other senior professionals.
- Develop, manage, and perform field work for geotechnical and geological studies in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Manage/direct drilling and sampling activities including logging boring holes.
- Adhere to established safety procedures.
- Assign and track progress of lab testing.
- Input field and lab data into computer programs.
- Perform critical review of laboratory test results in preparation for design recommendations.
- Analyze geotechnical findings, perform appropriate design calculations, and prepare draft reports under the direction of a Senior Engineer/Geologist.
- Assist in the preparation and modification of reports by others.
Requirements:
- B.S. in Civil Engineering/Geology or related field, M.S. in geotechnical engineering a plus.
- E.I.T./G.I.T. registration or ability to obtain; P.E./R.G. a plus.
- Familiarity with the principles of soil mechanics, foundation design, and slope stability.
- Working knowledge of computer-based operating systems (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access), CAD and the ability to learn other engineering-related programs such as GINT, Geo-Slope, Rock Pac III, CRSP.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
- Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions such as wet and/or humid environments, extreme cold and/or heat, dusty and noisy work environments.
- Field work on outside construction sites involving long-term standing, sitting and repetitive motions.
- Ability to use your senses to see (including close, distant and peripheral vision, depth vision and ability to focus), smell, hear and touch (use your hands to reach, climb or balance, crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel and sit).
Personal Characteristics:
- Attitude – Presents a professional demeanor to supervisors, co-workers, and clients; demonstrates a predisposition for working as a part of a team; demonstrates an interest in the work, works well with others.
- Willingness – Receives and follows through with instructions; completes assigned tasks with diligence and without complaint.
- Efficiency – Work is typically done correctly the first time, speed should be improving.
- Initiative – Once assigned tasks are complete, find other jobs to accomplish or requests instructions from supervisors.
