Position Overview: Budget Analyst
As a Budget Analyst at William Paterson University, you will collaborate closely with the Associate Director of Budget and Fiscal Planning. Your responsibilities will encompass a variety of functions related to the University's financial planning and operational budget, including the analysis of financial data and the formulation of budget strategies. You will manage sensitive information, including financial objectives, salary projections, and budgeting methodologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive analyses to support departmental budgets across the university.
- Accurately maintain data regarding positions and benefits.
- Ensure that all documentation related to position changes is current.
- Oversee position assignments in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Review budget modifications and assist with encumbrance processing.
- Analyze budget trends, forecast expenditures, and identify discrepancies.
- Work collaboratively with the Budget Team to effectively resolve budget-related issues.
- Assist in the preparation of the state's annual budget request.
- Establish strong working relationships with university departments concerning budgetary issues.
- Engage in university events, committees, and task forces as necessary.
- Perform additional relevant duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field is required.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in data analysis, preferably within the higher education sector.
Required Competencies and Skills:
- Ability to conduct detailed analyses and reconciliations effectively.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills are essential.
- Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with database management.
- Knowledge of Workday and/or Adaptive Planning is advantageous.
