The School Nurse Substitute performs a variety of health care services to students, including health screenings and medication administration. Key responsibilities include maintaining accurate and complete health records, providing emergency first aid, and assisting with the development of emergency procedures.


Essential Job Functions:
Compiles and maintains cumulative health records for each student in the building
Provides emergency or immediate first aid, initiates incident/accident reports, and follows up on personnel injured on school property
Assists with maintaining the school's emergency card file
Develops emergency procedures to provide care that minimizes the effects of accidents and illnesses in the school
Acts as the school resource person for health information and instruction
Maintains a daily record of students seen in the clinic
Completes reports as required by school procedures and state regulations

Education and Experience:
Associate's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university
Current Registered Nurse (RN) License held within the state of Virginia or other compact state
Ability to obtain additional license(s) and/or endorsement(s) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board
Experience in school, pediatric, public, or community health nursing
Current CPR certification
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university (preferred)
National School Nurse Certification (NBCSN) (preferred)
