Compensation: $17 per hour
At Midland States Bank, the base salary is just one part of our comprehensive Total Rewards program. The specific compensation is influenced by various factors including education, skills, internal equity, and experience. This role may also offer additional compensation through short-term incentives (such as bonuses and/or commissions) and may include long-term incentives (like stock awards). Position Overview
The Banking Associate Trainee role is focused on providing exceptional customer service to both existing and prospective clients. Individuals in this position will demonstrate strong communication abilities and possess a solid understanding of the bank's products and services. They will also be responsible for identifying referral opportunities that contribute to outstanding customer service outcomes.
This position will remain in a trainee capacity until the individual has demonstrated their capability to effectively match customers with the appropriate mix of products and services through needs-based inquiries. They are expected to consistently meet or exceed the performance and production targets set by the Banking Center Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Acquire comprehensive knowledge of banking operations.
- Process cash and checks for deposits, ensuring accuracy by verifying amounts, endorsements, and checking for potential fraud.
- Carefully examine cash to prevent acceptance of counterfeit bills.
- Cash checks for clients in accordance with bank policies, entering transactions into the computer system and issuing receipts.
- Deliver precise customer service, including balancing the cash drawer throughout the day to minimize discrepancies.
- Possess a foundational understanding of deposit and lending products and services.
- Identify appropriate product types through needs-based questioning to foster and deepen customer relationships, including determining needs and referring to business partners.
- Assist with basic deposit account openings and maintenance requests under the guidance of a senior employee.
- Develop sales and product knowledge to achieve personal and team objectives, tracking and monitoring sales opportunities in customer information software.
- Engage in onsite visits to clients to promote the Employee Perks at Work Program and Merchant Services.
- Proactively participate in outbound teleconsulting to enhance and expand existing client relationships.
- Actively engage in weekly team meetings and one-on-one coaching sessions.
- Serve as a relief and/or backup teller at various Midland States Bank locations.
- Complete all assigned learning activities in a timely manner.

- Participate in bank-sponsored community initiatives and activities.
- This role may require occasional travel for training and team meetings, as well as a willingness to travel periodically to various locations as needed.
- Collaboration and support of both internal and external customers may necessitate work in a Midland office.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
- Background in sales and customer service.
Skills Required:
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Capability to lift and transport coin and currency bags as needed (bags may weigh between 25lbs and 50lbs).
