COSTI is seeking a dedicated individual for the role of Housekeeper at its family immigrant reception center.

This position is governed by a union contract and entails a commitment of 35 hours per week, specifically from Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the center and its surroundings in accordance with health and safety standards.
  • Guide clients in the proper use of cleaning equipment and products, including laundry facilities and hygiene amenities.
  • Perform sweeping and mopping duties across various areas including hallways, offices, dining spaces, staircases, and outdoor balconies.
  • Ensure thorough cleaning and sanitization of windows, appliances, and communal areas such as the kitchen and dining room after each meal.
  • Assist evening staff with meal preparation, serving, and post-meal clean-up.
  • Manage waste disposal in designated areas, ensuring proper segregation and disposal practices.
  • Restock essential supplies like soap and light bulbs, and report any maintenance needs to the Operations Manager.
  • Handle and transport cleaning supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Perform additional tasks as required, including answering phones and organizing spaces.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of three years of experience in housekeeping within large residential facilities.
  • Possession of a WHMIS certificate is required.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Safe Food Handling Certificate is necessary.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity and understanding when working with refugee populations.
  • Capability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following languages is advantageous: Dari, Farsi, Arabic, Spanish, Amharic, French, Russian, Somali, Tagalog, and Tigrinya.

Applicants must provide a valid Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) Police check, completed within the last six months, and must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
