Position Overview:

This pivotal role will oversee all engineering initiatives across multiple product lines within the Unitary/Ductless engineering division, focusing on products such as thermostats and mini-splits. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 12 years of research and development experience, particularly in consumer products, appliances, or HVAC sectors. This individual will collaborate with various cross-functional teams to devise and implement a product strategy for the designated product categories, incorporating consumer market analysis, data insights, customer feedback, product safety, quality assurance, and advanced development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and sustain product roadmaps for designated product categories, initially focusing on thermostats and mini-splits.
  • Lead projects and manage ongoing R&D initiatives impacting these products.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to pinpoint future project and product requirements to foster innovation, enhance product offerings, and boost market share.
  • Organize and coordinate consumer and contractor research to identify future product roadmap necessities.
  • Conduct competitive analysis for assigned categories, including new innovations, patents, and competitive performance.
  • Summarize product quality and safety insights from cross-functional team members and organize data for future projects.
  • Coordinate with regulatory engineers to ensure compliance with upcoming regulations and strategize necessary adjustments.
  • Engage in hands-on engineering tasks, including prototype development and sample testing.
  • Work alongside data scientists to create product review dashboards for assigned categories, facilitating the monitoring of reviews, pain points, and sentiment analysis.
  • Track quality returns and safety concerns with the quality and safety engineering team, prioritizing necessary product modifications.
  • Understand international product offerings in these categories and collaborate with sales and marketing teams to strategize the adaptation of existing features/products for the North American market.
  • Act as a champion for product innovation, driving future R&D initiatives and leading projects into production.
  • Maintain effective communication with global colleagues, including occasional evening or weekend meetings, to track project milestones, deliverables, and action items.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 12+ years of engineering experience, ideally in consumer electronics, appliances, or HVAC sectors.
  • Familiarity with standard consumer research methodologies and practices.
  • Goal-oriented and self-managed.
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills.
  • Able to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
  • Self-starter with excellent organizational abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in engineering, preferably in Mechanical Engineering or an MBA.

EPA 608 certification.
