Job Overview

Whitman College is seeking a highly skilled Groundskeeper/Horticulturist to join our team. This position plays a vital role in maintaining the aesthetic and functional integrity of our campus landscapes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain turf areas through regular mowing, edging, aerating, renovating, overseeding, fertilizing, and top dressing.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and adjust all irrigation systems, utilizing knowledge of proper pruning of plant material and industry standards.
  • Perform weed, insect, and disease control using chemical, cultural, mechanical, or biological means, ensuring outdoor spaces are accessible, safe, and inviting.
  • Be willing to train and work with student workers and assist in the guidance of their duties, promoting inclusivity and equitable practices.
Requirements
  • High School diploma AND 2+ years of experience in groundskeeping/horticulture OR 5+ years of relevant experience in higher education.
  • Valid drivers license with three years of driving experience, and ability to pass a motor vehicle report, background check, and pre-employment physical.
  • Knowledge of irrigation principles, tools, and related equipment, as well as applicable professional certification.
