POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary objective of the Nursing Supervisor is to oversee the daily nursing operations within the Health Center during designated hours. This oversight must align with current federal, state, and local standards, regulations, and guidelines that govern our facility, ensuring the highest quality of care is consistently maintained.
The Nursing Supervisor is entrusted with the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability essential for executing their designated tasks.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administrative Duties:
Assist the Director of Nursing in managing the daily nursing activities in accordance with established regulations and guidelines governing long-term care facilities. Ensure compliance with policies and procedures set forth in the Nursing Service Procedures Manual. Regularly submit reports and recommendations to the Director regarding the nursing service department's operations.
Facilitate the coordination of nursing services with other resident services to guarantee continuity in the residents' overall care regimen. Ensure all nursing staff adhere to their respective roles and responsibilities.
Participate in the development and implementation of the Health Center's Performance Improvement Program for nursing services.
Engage in home surveys conducted by authorized agencies as requested by the Administrator or Director of Nursing.
Conduct regular meetings with nursing and support staff to promote operational efficiency.
Complete necessary documentation, including accident reports and clinical forms, as required.
Team Leadership:
Collaborate with nursing leadership to ensure adequate staffing of licensed practical nurses and certified nursing assistants for each shift. Develop work assignments and assist in task completion as needed.
Monitor Charge Nurses to ensure they fulfill their responsibilities, including oversight of certified nursing assistants.
Conduct daily rounds to verify compliance with nursing standards and intervene when necessary to address performance issues.
Foster a positive working relationship with all departments to meet residents' needs according to their care plans.
Nursing Care Responsibilities:
Inform the care team of new admissions and ensure prompt service delivery. Conduct rounds with physicians as necessary and communicate with attending physicians regarding residents' clinical status.
Ensure that nursing care is delivered by qualified personnel and that documentation accurately reflects the care provided.
Participate in staff training and continuing education to maintain professional knowledge and skills.
Safety and Compliance:
Assist in developing safety standards for the nursing department and ensure compliance with infection control protocols. Monitor the nursing service areas to maintain cleanliness and safety.
Ensure that all nursing staff follow established procedures for the safe handling of equipment and supplies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must possess training in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices. A Registered Nurse with an active license is preferred, though a Licensed Practical Nurse with a current license may also be considered.
Strong communication skills in English are essential, along with the ability to make independent decisions and interact tactfully with various stakeholders.
Leadership skills and the ability to implement quality care programs are necessary, along with proficiency in technology used in clinical settings.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work involves moving throughout the nursing service area and interacting with residents and team members under various conditions.
