Job Overview

Position Summary:

Support fleet operations by ensuring the upkeep of the organization's vehicles and machinery. Responsibilities include conducting routine maintenance, executing scheduled repairs, and addressing urgent repair needs. Duties also involve procuring parts from suppliers, managing inventory, maintaining cleanliness in the workshop, and organizing tools and equipment. Collaborate with the Division Supervisor and fellow mechanics to ensure a well-organized, safe, and efficient work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Carry out preventive maintenance tasks on vehicles, such as oil changes, lubrication, and comprehensive inspections. Assist in the upkeep and repair of various equipment, from small engines to heavy machinery, under supervision.
  2. Maintain an orderly workshop, including tools and parts inventory. Ensure tools are cleaned and organized, and assist in washing vehicles and transporting parts as required.
  3. Provide assistance to other departments with equipment repairs as necessary.
  4. Be prepared to respond to emergency situations, including after-hours calls, and be willing to work overtime when needed.
  5. Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill each essential duty effectively. The following qualifications are essential for success in this position:

Experience: A minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience is preferred.

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional training in vehicle maintenance, ASE certifications (A1-A8), and skills in metal fabrication or welding are advantageous.

Licenses and Certifications:

  1. A valid Class B Utah driver's license with tanker and air brake endorsements is required or must be obtained within a specified timeframe. A hazardous materials endorsement is also necessary.
  2. UST AB Operator certification is required or must be obtained within a specified timeframe.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Regular dexterity is essential.
  2. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively.
  3. Frequent requirements include sitting or performing repetitive movements with hands and fingers.
  4. Occasional tasks may involve feeling objects, grasping, pushing, standing, walking, driving, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  5. Physical lifting requirements include:
    1. Regularly: 1 to 25 pounds
    2. Frequently: 26 to 50 pounds
    3. Occasionally: 51 to 100 pounds
    4. Rarely: 101 to 150 pounds

Specific vision abilities required include clarity of vision at varying distances and the ability to distinguish colors and use peripheral vision. Occasional outdoor work may be required in various weather conditions.

Work Environment:
