Commercial Insurance Underwriting Assistant Position for Ambitious Professionals

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Insurance Underwriting Assistant to join our team at Universal Shield Insurance Group in Dublin, Ohio. As a key member of our underwriting department, you will play a crucial role in supporting our growth and success.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate with agents, producers, and underwriters to support underwriting efforts and take necessary actions within designated timeframes.
- Ensure quality and timeliness of policies and correspondence, responding to customer inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain accurate electronic files per company and regulatory guidelines.
- Perform exposure comparisons, research risks via company and public data resources, and review applications to ensure accuracy of application, quote, and policy details.
- Quote and issue commercial property, general liability, and inland marine lines of coverage, processing endorsements as needed.
- Review property and casualty inspection reports, managing necessary inspection recommendations.
- Review policy performance for renewal business, requesting additional information as needed.
- Develop personal industry skills and knowledge to meet the company's culture and expectations of continuous learning and career enrichment.
- Stay up-to-date on current P&C insurance market trends, conditions, competitive intelligence, and product and service innovations.
- Interact collaboratively and collegially with colleagues, agents, and customers in a professional manner.
Requirements
- Two years of commercial insurance underwriting assistant experience working with small and mid-size accounts.
- Minimum high school diploma / GED required.
- Previous commercial insurance rating experience is preferred but not required.
- Moderate knowledge of commercial coverage endorsements rules and regulations.
- Excellent interpersonal decision-making and analytical skills are required.
- Exceptional organizational skills to prioritize multiple tasks with high attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Continuous underwriting skills development. Professional designations are available via company-paid self-training through The Institutes and The National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research.
Compensation and Benefits
This non-exempt position offers an estimated hourly pay range of $20-$30, depending on experience.
