About the Role:
NURSES Etc STAFFING is seeking a skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team at Keesler AFB. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will be responsible for providing high-quality respiratory care to patients, including pulmonary functions, exercise stress testing, and assisting physicians with various procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Perform pulmonary functions such as exercise stress testing.
- Assist physician with transesophageal and stress echocardiography, and radionuclide and thallium studies.
- Operate and maintain specialized equipment to evaluate respiratory functions, and respiratory physiology.
- Perform spirometry, flow volume loops, lung volumes, diffusion capacities, and closing volumes.
- Draw and analyze arterial blood gas samples. Maintain quality control of arterial blood gas machines and CO oximeters, including proficiency testing.
- Perform broncho-provocation and exercise testing.
- Assist physician with fiberoptic bronchoscopy for diagnosis and therapy.
- Administer respiratory care such as oxygen and aerosol therapy, mechanical ventilator management, and preparation and administration of respiratory medications.
- Assist physician with intubation and extubation procedures. Perform endotracheal tube care. Maintain patient airway. Ensure bronchial hygiene through incentive spirometry and specialized breathing instructions.
- Prepare and instruct patient to use equipment or perform procedure.
- Check patient and equipment, and change equipment.
- Monitor data display on physiological equipment and obtain and record vital signs. Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
- Assess and document patient status. Perform user maintenance on equipment.
- Adhere to infection control and universal precautions procedures, including disposition of contaminated materials.
- Practice safety and security measures.
- Perform pulmonary laboratory administrative, maintenance, and support functions.
- Clean, disinfect, and sterilize (or prepare for sterilization) pulmonary equipment.
- Operationally check and inspect equipment.
- Determine inventory level of disposable supplies; stock accordingly; and return excess stock.
- Prepare equipment requisitions.
- Maintain CPR cart. Ensure emergency equipment is available and functional.
- Schedule patients for evaluations, procedures, and treatments.
- Obtain medical records.
- Greet patients and answer telephone.
- Assist with transportation of patients to and from hospitals, and those in the air evacuation system requiring mechanical ventilation.
- Maintain general correspondence, files, records, and reports.
- Provide biometric data.
- Experienced contractor personnel may be asked by the medical director of the clinic to serve in an advisory/second opinion role to less experienced health care workers (HCW). This will only be for limited amounts of time and agreed upon the contractor personnel and medical director prior to assuming this role. To accommodate the extra time required to fulfill this role, the patient load will be decreased to levels equitable to active duty.
