Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Telecommunications Design Specialist to join our team at Burns & McDonnell. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for creating world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments across various industries.

Key Responsibilities
  • Telecommunication Design: Perform telecommunication design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion under the direction of a licensed professional engineer.
  • Design Review and Modification: Modify and review production drawings for a variety of projects, including power plants, process facilities, industrial facilities, healthcare facilities, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental and military facilities.
  • Telecommunication Component Design: Design telecommunication components for project needs and requirements set forth by project managers.
  • Technical Expertise: Apply strong knowledge of commonly used telecommunication engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the telecommunication engineering services industry.
  • SCADA System Support: Provide technical expertise and solutions to support the device building, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of the RT SCADA systems for the client's distribution network.
  • Device Building and Mapping: Device building and mapping of various analog, status, calc, virtual, amp, analog points, history, settings, and controls.
  • Problem Resolution: Resolve problems of limited scope within SCADA procedural guidelines in support of new device installation, upgrades, and replacements.
  • Coordination and Research: Coordinate with field technicians, automation engineers, communication technicians, ADMS SCADA Specialists, project, program, and SCADA Managers to support the successful testing and release of devices. Research and compile project-related data as required by project managers.
  • Drawing Updates and Client Presentations: Update drawings provided by senior engineers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD-related software. Compile information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for the design of power, process, pipeline, industrial, healthcare, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental and military facilities.
  • Field Inspections and Measurements: Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all policies and standards.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology or related degree from an accredited program.
  • Experience: 4 years of telecommunication engineering experience, consulting preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills. Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures. Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite). Strong computer skills (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCADD), and/or hydraulic, hydrologic, pavement, telecommunication analysis programs.
  • Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
