SUMMARY:

The Telecommunications Equipment Specialist III (Lead) plays a pivotal role in the setup and upkeep of telecommunication apparatus for various service providers.

This encompasses fiber optics, transport systems, and all essential infrastructures within a central office environment.

This leadership position is dedicated to delivering exceptional service in customer technical areas, including data centers, mobile telephone switch centers, central office wire centers, and designated enterprise locations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Execute the physical installation, removal, or modification of operational and non-operational equipment, including:
o Cable trays and/or racking systems
o Data equipment cabinets and frames, data servers, switches, routers, repeaters, bridges, gateways, multiplexers, transceivers, firewalls
o BDFBs and fuse panels

  • Identify, label, measure, terminate, and physically route cables that provide AC and/or DC power or transmit data in various technical environments.
  • Conduct performance testing and document the characteristics of hardware and software; assess efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with existing systems.
  • Carry out testing and activation processes along with other integration tasks.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and technical challenges as they occur.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret detailed specifications, drawings, blueprints, and method of procedures (MOPs).
  • Perform quality assurance on both in-process and completed work.
  • Complete operational documentation (e.g., expense reports, timesheets, job documentation, etc.) including daily job status updates as required.
  • May supervise the activities of less experienced installers; take responsibility for the successful execution of installation projects.
  • Serve as a point of contact for customers; communicate with clients and local supervisors regarding project progress.
  • Collaborate with all organizational members including Installation, Engineering, and Project Management teams.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; technical or college degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in central office equipment installation is required.
  • Comprehensive understanding of telecommunications quality standards.
  • Familiarity with transport equipment such as Ciena, Fujitsu, Cisco, Calix, Adtran, Nortel, Nokia, etc.
  • Background in fiber optic cable and AC/DC power installation and testing methodologies.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft applications, iOS, and/or Android platforms.
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical drawings and documentation.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, including the use of basic power tools.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities; capacity to define issues, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Willingness to travel as necessary.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record and proof of insurance.
  • Must possess reliable transportation and the capability to transport minor job-related tools and equipment to work sites.

LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
  • Capability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively before employees of the organization.
