POSITION SUMMARY

This position serves as the primary contact for all loan closing activities related to approval conditions. The role requires effective communication with all stakeholders to facilitate the loan documentation process while adhering to underwriting standards, bank policies, compliance, and regulatory mandates. The Loan Closer will operate within established protocols and possess an advanced understanding of loan documentation, credit policies, and banking products.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:
  • Receiving loan approvals for a range of commercial loans, from straightforward to highly complex, preparing them for closing based on underwriter guidelines. Evaluating approvals for closing conditions, necessary lending authority, lien perfection requirements, and SBA stipulations (if applicable).
  • Requesting and obtaining essential due diligence items from internal departments or external vendors, including title commitments, UCC searches, real estate appraisals, environmental assessments, flood determinations, proof of insurance, and surveys.
  • Reviewing due diligence items to resolve issues and ensure complete and accurate loan and borrower information is provided to the document preparation team.
  • Calculating collateral loan-to-value ratios and assessing the adequacy of insurance coverage, including flood insurance requirements.
  • Providing prompt, complete, and accurate responses to inquiries.
  • Once the loan is confirmed as 'clear to close,' coordinating the timely preparation of loan documents, whether internally or through external counsel.
  • Transferring all credit and due diligence documents to the imaging system, adhering to all imaging protocols.
  • Coordinating with branch sales staff and other relevant parties to establish closing dates.
  • Ensuring that the requested documents for loan structures and collateral types are appropriate and possess comprehensive knowledge of products and their requirements.
  • May assist in managing the commercial tickler system, including monitoring items, updates, and exception reporting to Relationship Managers and Management.
  • Participating in training sessions to maintain knowledge of Bank products; attending operational meetings and staying informed about credit policy changes.
  • May contribute to the development and maintenance of procedural and training materials.
  • Executing job responsibilities in accordance with established service level agreements.
  • May assist in mentoring and training other team members, both new and existing.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

A High School diploma or equivalent is required, along with a minimum of five (5) years of banking experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An advanced understanding of credit products, documentation terminology, vendor documents, lien perfection, and document preparation systems is essential. The candidate should exhibit advanced knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal regulations, bank policies, and procedures, with the ability to meet deadlines under pressure. Experience with complex commercial lending and SBA loans is preferred.

OTHER SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

Must demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment and possess strong organizational, time management, and attention to detail skills. Strong interpersonal skills, including both oral and written communication and problem-solving abilities, are essential. Proficiency with personal computers and related software packages is required.

Computer skills are crucial, including proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook. Experience with PowerPoint is advantageous. The role requires initiative and sound judgment, with strong oral and written communication skills, including facilitation abilities. The candidate must be able to prioritize tasks and remain adaptable under pressure. Travel may be required as necessary.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business publications, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to perform basic mathematical operations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates and percentages and to interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Ability to interpret various instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk, or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and sit. The employee may occasionally need to use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
