Accountant Job Description

Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative (MEC) is a progressive electric utility, member-owned cooperative serving Southside Virginia. We are seeking a motivated individual to fill the position of Accountant in our Chase City Headquarters.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide support to the Finance and Accounting Department in paying vendors and compiling accounts payable information.
  • Administer effective and efficient processes, complete reports, and maintain all records.
  • Assist in planning, coordinating, and controlling the functions of accounting services to ensure financial records are kept in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and RUS requirements.
  • Provide reliable and timely financial reporting and statistical information for effective decision making and control.
Requirements:
  • A bachelor's degree in accounting or relevant discipline.
  • Three years of experience in accounting procedures.
  • Candidates possessing additional years of experience in related fields may substitute for a portion of the educational requirement.
