Job Title: Melter/Caster

Wieland is a global leader in copper and copper alloy manufacturing, processing, and distribution. We are seeking a skilled Melter/Caster to join our team in Pine Hall, NC.

Job Summary:

The Melter/Caster will be responsible for performing various semi-skilled functions to support casting operations. This includes assembling, rebuilding, setting up, maintaining, and operating equipment designed to produce copper tubing using continuous casting technology.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform all applicable SOPs, JSAs, and QAPs associated with the assigned job title.
  • Assemble, rebuild, set up, maintain, and operate equipment used in the continuous casting process for copper tubing production.
  • Operate and handle melting/holding furnaces.
  • Handle and work with any kind of refractory, including castables and ramming mixtures.
  • Support activities include production, tool changes, quality checks, production PMs, reline tasks, and keeping the work area clean.
  • Handle, charge, and melt copper.
  • Handle copper cathodes, chops, and plant scrap.
  • Perform quality checks, including reading, writing, and basic math.
Requirements:
  • Ability to perform firm grasping, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, standing, crouching, sitting, negotiating stairs, ladders, and slippery surfaces in a hot/cold environment.
  • Ability to work safely with, around, and wearing protection for cleaning chemicals, solvents, copper fumes, inks, and lubricants.
  • Ability to distinguish colors.
  • Ability to grasp and use a pry bar (20 pounds).
  • Ability to firmly grasp and use hammers, wrenches, and various hand tools during adjustments, repairs, and replacement/change-out operations.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment for assigned duties.
  • Ability to use a shovel during cleaning operations.
  • Ability to operate a jackhammer and Brokk robotic jackhammer.
