POSITION SUMMARY: The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides essential nursing care to assigned patients under the guidance and oversight of a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Medical Doctor (MD). This role encompasses a range of direct and indirect patient care responsibilities tailored to meet the specific needs of the patient population served, as outlined in the department's service scope.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:

1. Gathers essential assessment data and identifies deviations from normal to inform the physician.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
  • Completes thorough collection of assessment data.
  • Assists in reassessing patients as needed and reports significant changes in patient status to the RN or physician.
  • Ensures documentation is completed accurately and consistently.
  • Delivers patient care in accordance with established standards and patient needs.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collects data from patients and their families.
  • Educates families and patients regarding care.
  • Documents medication administration, treatments, and interventions accurately.
  • Administers medications as prescribed.
  • Performs treatments as directed by the physician.
  • Guides and assists ancillary nursing staff with assigned tasks.
  • Monitors IVs and blood for proper function and reports any adverse effects.
  • Initiates IVs as necessary and as ordered.
  • Completes all other assigned duties.
REGULATORY COMPLIANCE:

Maintains knowledge of and adheres to all relevant regulations, including but not limited to patient privacy and medical records management.

SAFETY COMPLIANCE:

Maintains knowledge of and adheres to all applicable safety practices, including incident reporting and handling of hazardous materials.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EXPERIENCE:
Preferred one year of experience.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
Current Louisiana LPN licensure required.
