Registered Nurse - Oncology Specialist Overview


US Oncology, Inc. is seeking a dedicated Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) to become a vital part of our healthcare team. This role will involve supporting the medical oncology, radiation oncology, and infusion departments.

This is a full-time position, operating Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM, with no weekend, call, or holiday shifts required.

Key Responsibilities of the Oncology Registered Nurse (RN)


Under minimal supervision, the Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care for patients, adhering to national and company standards and guidelines for specialty regulations.

The RN will:

  • Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate, and promote continuity of care in line with established standards and practices.
  • Assess health status by interviewing patients regarding their current condition and medical history.
  • Evaluate patient and family needs, providing education and instructional materials.
  • Offer psychosocial support to patients and their families.
  • Prepare and administer therapies under the supervision of a physician.
  • Administer medications and blood products accurately, ensuring correct dosage and technique.
  • Facilitate dose modifications by assessing patients, reviewing lab results, and consulting treatment protocols.
  • Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports, and maintain central line catheter devices.
  • Support clinical operations and patient care.
  • Manage patient medication refill requests and document information in patient charts.
  • Triaging patient phone calls as necessary and documenting relevant information.
  • Assist patients in finding available community resources.
Qualifications


The ideal candidate for the Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) will possess:

  • A degree from an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred.
  • A valid RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • 3-5 years of nursing experience, with oncology experience preferred.
  • OCN certification preferred.

Physical Requirements


The physical demands of this position include:

  • Full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients.
  • Manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Corrected vision and hearing within normal ranges.
