Job Overview

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Operations teams to ascertain essential resources, materials, and capacity for designated programs. Formulate outcome-oriented Statements of Work, financial plans, and program timelines to fulfill contractual goals, key milestones, and anticipated financial outcomes.
  • Proactively assess potential risks and implement suitable measures to mitigate these risks utilizing established risk management methodologies.
  • Oversee program timelines to guarantee timely delivery. Partner with Engineering and Operations to devise recovery strategies when necessary.
  • Regularly monitor program financials. Review and update actual expenditures, cost commitments, and projected costs at completion promptly and accurately. Collaborate with Finance to generate monthly Estimates at Completion (EAC) for each program.
  • Deliver monthly performance reports on program metrics, including timelines, quality, and profitability, with sufficient detail to facilitate discussions across various management levels.
  • Maintain consistent and professional communication with clients throughout the program lifecycle. Ensure clients are promptly informed of any issues that may impact quality or delivery, as well as concerns regarding expanded scope and additional funding needs.
  • Investigate and present client requests and concerns to management and relevant departments for resolution.
  • When necessary, facilitate collaboration between Engineering and/or Operations and the client to enhance product design and manufacturability.
  • Lead all facets of client interchange meetings effectively.
  • Guide and mentor the Integrated Product Team while working in conjunction with Technical Managers to ensure program cost, schedule, and technical performance objectives are met.
  • Thoroughly document and maintain contract files with all communications that accurately reflect the history, progress, and critical decisions related to a program.
  • Monitor client report cards for accuracy and address discrepancies for timely correction.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to other Program Managers. May assume a team lead role at the discretion of management.
  • May serve as an assigned Product Manager to develop business strategies aimed at expanding product lines with full Profit and Loss (P&L) responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Engineering on Requests for Quotations (RFQs) for large-scale programs; engage in all costing, quoting, and client discussions from RFQ initiation through final contract finalization.
  • Assist in crafting pricing strategies and negotiating key contracts. May also recommend cost allocations within approved frameworks. Present recommendations to management and corporate with necessary analysis and justifications.
  • May lead proposal and negotiation efforts with key clients for new, add-on, and multi-year contracts, possessing the authority to negotiate within pre-approved limits.
  • Leverage client relationships to secure follow-on and new business that aligns with the organization's critical financial objectives.
  • Utilize knowledge of assigned clients' businesses and the marketplace to research and propose potential areas for exploration or expansion of sales opportunities in support of the sales team.
  • Conduct follow-ups with clients and develop relationships with suitable partners for II-VI Aerospace & Defense capabilities to support ongoing and future business opportunities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations Management, or a technical field such as Engineering. Equivalent experience and certifications may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • A minimum of 9 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 7 years with a Master's degree; or a PhD with 4 years of experience; or equivalent professional experience.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a US Security Clearance. Current active US Security Clearance and experience in Defense or Aerospace sectors are highly preferred.
  • PMP Certification is preferred.

  • Strong planning and leadership capabilities to coordinate tasks and achieve objectives through indirect reports. Demonstrated adaptability and change management skills.
  • Ability to persuade and inspire others. Strong negotiation skills are essential.
  • Proficient in identifying, negotiating, and managing appropriate contract types (e.g., FFP, T&M, CPFF) to meet client needs and mitigate internal risks.
  • Comprehensive understanding of production and financial reporting/systems related to program/project management (budgeting, EACs, etc.).
  • Ability to train, coach, and mentor other program managers. Proven leadership skills in coordinating technology development, negotiating technology transfer, business development, and leading inter-company teams.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Project and other software tools necessary for effective communication with clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Commitment to supporting and enhancing II-VI's business policies, procedures, and systems.

  • Hybrid work model: work in a designated office area 2-3 days per week; balance work from home.
