POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Legal Counsel operates under the guidance of the Managing Attorney.
This role involves evaluating the legal implications of various cases, conducting thorough research on significant legal issues, drafting legal documents, and providing legal counsel and representation in community engagement initiatives. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- LEGAL RESEARCH:
Conducts comprehensive research on pertinent cases and legal questions; examines relevant laws, regulations, legislative histories, prior rulings, and other legal precedents; identifies and retrieves rare or complex case law.
Investigates intricate or poorly defined legal areas and organizes findings according to specified search criteria.
- LEGAL ANALYSIS:
Discerns critical issues within cases and draws parallels from established legal precedents; assesses alternative conclusions and their potential consequences; synthesizes facts and legal principles to formulate persuasive legal arguments.
- LEGAL WRITING:
Composes legal documents, including pleadings and briefs; reviews case files and evidence; prepares structured reports summarizing case details, positions of involved parties, and pertinent facts; articulates written or verbal legal arguments to support client positions or counter opposing claims.
- PROFESSIONAL ADVICE AND ASSISTANCE:
Clarifies requests for legal support; provides insights into the legal implications and potential outcomes associated with various situations; informs clients about their legal status and the possible involvement of the organization in resolving their issues; recommends actions for case progression or closure.
- CASE MANAGEMENT:
Sets objectives and priorities for case work; updates and tracks the status of case files; maintains organized records of relevant documents and correspondence; reviews contributions made by others to case files.
- INFORMATION GATHERING:
Clarifies legal issues and research needs through client interviews and case file reviews; collects essential information and evidence relevant to cases; formulates inquiries to extract necessary details; integrates information from various sources and resolves factual ambiguities.
- SUPERVISION OF SUPPORT STAFF:
Assigns tasks and responsibilities to support personnel; provides guidance and establishes performance expectations; offers coaching and feedback to enhance staff performance; adjusts assignments as needed to meet changing priorities.
- COMMUNITY RELATIONS:
Fosters and maintains collaborative relationships with agency personnel, court officials, and other stakeholders involved in the organization's activities.
- ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
Performs other responsibilities as required.
- PROBLEM SOLVING: Ability to analyze and synthesize information from diverse sources to formulate logical conclusions.
- ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS: Proficiency in arranging and coordinating tasks and activities.
- COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Ability to deliver presentations and articulate ideas clearly and persuasively.
- SUPERVISORY SKILLS: Capability to instruct and mentor others, providing constructive feedback.

Completion of a law degree from an accredited institution.
Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Mississippi or in the process of obtaining licensure; must have reliable transportation for fieldwork.
