Payroll Operations Specialist

At Western Veterinary Partners, we are committed to excellence in all aspects of our business, including payroll management. As a Payroll Manager, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of payroll processing for our veterinary practices across the Western United States.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of managing full cycle multi-state payrolls, with a strong understanding of federal and state regulations. You will be responsible for owning and understanding the payroll process end to end, ensuring the accuracy of manual input and file uploads in ADP, as well as pay run processing.
This role requires a high degree of attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. You will be a subject matter expert in payroll, consistently working towards operational precision through automation.
Key responsibilities of the Payroll Manager include:
- Managing the payroll process to ensure accuracy and timeliness
- Owning and understanding the payroll process end to end
- Auditing for accuracy of employee pay, time off accruals, and historical records
- Functioning as the payroll subject matter expert
- Researching and resolving complex payroll issues
- Maintaining payroll processing systems to optimize data collection for reporting
- Ensuring operational efficiency and compliance
- Assisting with nationwide tax registrations and jurisdictional compliance
- Staying updated on best practices and technology advancements
- Developing and conducting trainings to support managers on the use of the payroll platform
- Compiling and analyzing payroll data, making recommendations, and preparing error-free reporting for management
- Responding with urgency and accuracy to calls, emails, and requests from employees
Supervisory Responsibilities
This role also includes supervisory responsibilities, including managing the payroll team, promoting teamwork and stellar communication, and operating as the subject matter expert and escalation point.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- 5+ years of experience with full cycle multi-state payrolls
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Business Administration, HR, or related field required or equivalent work experience
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) required
- Ticketing system implementation experience preferred
- Deep understanding of ADP Workforce Now. Other payroll platform experience considered
- Highly proficient with the MS Office Suite of products and strong Excel skills
- Results-driven and process-improvement focused
- Effectively multitask and adjust to changing priorities
- Strong initiative, emotionally maturity, and supportive nature
- Local to the greater Denver area
Compensation
We offer competitive compensation, including a salary range of $100,000 - $120,000 annually, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision benefits, vacation, sick leave, 401(k), and more, depending on location.
