Key Responsibilities

Financial Management, Reporting, and Compliance
  • Oversees the daily operations of all financial activities, including disbursements, revenue collection, payroll management, and account reconciliations.
  • Manages the monthly and yearly financial closing procedures, ensuring the preparation of comprehensive general ledger account analyses, journal entries, and necessary adjustments.
  • Proactively manages cash flow; forecasts expenditures and follows up on overdue collections and outstanding commitments.
  • Generates monthly internal financial reports.
  • Ensures prompt payments to suppliers.
  • Guarantees timely submission of reports required by regulatory bodies and funding organizations.
  • Coordinates with external auditors to ensure compliance with deadlines and the timely provision of all necessary documentation and filings (including OMB Uniform Guidance, Form 5500, Form 990, etc.).
  • Prepares annual financial statements and assists in the compilation of the 990 form.
  • Collaborates with relevant stakeholders to implement corrective action plans based on findings from the annual audit.
  • Regularly reviews and updates the organization's Finance Policies & Procedures Manual as necessary.
Program Support and Financial Analysis
  • Works closely with the Vice President of Financial Planning and Analysis to create financial reports for committee evaluations, decision-making, and Board presentations.
  • Engages with program Vice Presidents to assess the financial implications of departmental services; identifies potential opportunities and risks.
Leadership and Special Initiatives
  • Supervises a team of accounting professionals and grants administrators.
  • In collaboration with the CFO, establishes the strategic and operational direction of financial processes, workflows, and communications with program staff.
  • At the direction of the CFO, leads special projects aimed at enhancing processes and fostering innovation across the organization.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting; CPA designation preferred.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP principles applicable to non-profit organizations.
  • Over 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including roles in financial leadership.
  • Familiarity with government contracts and revenue recognition standards.
  • Experience managing teams of five or more.
  • Extensive knowledge of various accounting software; familiarity with Great Plains and Financial Edge is advantageous.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
