Position Overview:
The Patient Access Coordinator is tasked with ensuring the precise registration of all individuals seeking hospital services. This role includes managing incoming calls and directing them to the relevant departments, as well as assisting with upfront financial collections at the time of service.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct thorough and accurate registration and admission processes for patients accessing hospital services.
2. Verify insurance eligibility for all patients and generate cost estimates for eligible individuals, which may involve contacting insurance providers to clarify deductibles and patient responsibilities.
3. Document all actions meticulously on patient accounts to maintain accurate records.
4. Assist self-pay patients with upfront financial obligations and guide them through available payment options.
5. Facilitate the efficient resolution of billing inquiries while staying informed about various payment arrangements and financial alternatives available to patients.
6. Participate in annual Handle with Care training or biennial CPI training to ensure compliance with safety protocols.
Qualifications:
A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Candidates should possess strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Familiarity with third-party payer registration and admission requirements, along with a general understanding of medical terminology and procedures, is essential. Previous experience in clerical roles, collections, and credit management, as well as knowledge of healthcare accounts receivable billing and collections, is highly desirable.
