Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Building and Fire Safety Inspector to join our team at the City of Blackfoot. As a key member of our planning and zoning department, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with city planning and development ordinances and adopted building codes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Building Inspections: Conduct thorough inspections of buildings and structures to ensure compliance with building codes and ordinances.
  • Plan Review: Review building plans and designs to ensure they meet city regulations and codes.
  • Fire Safety: Perform fire safety inspections and ensure compliance with fire codes and regulations.
  • Communication: Provide information to the public, developers, contractors, and other stakeholders on planning, zoning, and building standards.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of inspections, reviews, and enforcement actions.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent, preferably supplemented with education in building construction and/or inspection technology.
  • Certifications: International Code Council Commercial and Residential Building Inspector Certifications, International Code Council Plans Examiner Certification, and International Code Council Fire Inspector II Certification.
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of building codes, ordinances, and regulations; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Working Conditions

This position requires frequent travel to various locations throughout the city, including construction sites and buildings. The employee must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
