Job Summary

The Clinical Nurse I delivers expert nursing care through thorough assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, execution, and evaluation in alignment with the policies and protocols of the facility or department, under the guidance of nursing leadership. This role is essential in ensuring a secure work environment and executing all related responsibilities safely. The nurse maintains clinical and professional proficiency appropriate to the patient demographic served.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gathers relevant data concerning the health of the patient or the situation at hand. Evaluates the assessment data to identify actual or potential diagnoses, challenges, and concerns.
  • Establishes anticipated outcomes for a personalized care plan tailored to the patient or the situation.
  • Formulates a strategy that outlines methods to achieve expected, measurable results.
  • Implements the established plan, coordinates care delivery, and employs strategies to enhance health and ensure a safe environment.
  • Assigns aspects of care to suitable healthcare personnel in accordance with applicable legal or policy guidelines.
  • Assesses progress towards achieving goals and outcomes.
  • Practices in a manner that respects cultural diversity and inclusion principles.
  • Communicates effectively across all areas of practice.
  • Collaborates with patients and other key stakeholders in the execution of nursing practice.
  • Exhibits leadership within the professional practice environment and the nursing profession.
  • Incorporates evidence and research findings into clinical practice.
  • Contributes to the advancement of quality nursing practice.
  • Reviews personal and peer nursing practices against professional standards and regulations.
  • Utilizes appropriate resources to plan, deliver, and maintain evidence-based nursing services that are safe, effective, and financially responsible.

  • Upholds ethical standards in practice.
  • Encourages shared governance and participation in facility decision-making processes, fostering research to positively influence clinical outcomes.
Physical Requirements
The role necessitates walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. The nurse must be capable of lifting and supporting up to 35 pounds while handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Proficiency in English is required for effective communication. The position demands intact sensory functions, including sight, hearing, smell, and touch, along with finger dexterity. Critical thinking and the ability to focus are essential. The nurse must be able to respond promptly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions. Physical abilities testing is a requirement.

Education, Experience, and Certifications
Candidates must be graduates of an accredited School of Nursing. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred. Current Basic Life Support certification is required in accordance with policy guidelines. A valid RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner in the state of practice is mandatory, or if declaring a National License Compact (NLC) state as the primary state of residency, the candidate must meet the licensure requirements of their home state; for Non-National License Compact states, a current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner is required in the state where the RN practices.
