Work Schedule Summary
This role requires flexible shift availability, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Employees are responsible for arranging their own substitutes for scheduled shifts and are expected to assist during events and rentals while collaborating effectively as a team.

Position Responsibilities

Position Summary
The primary duty is to ensure the safety of individuals at the University of Idaho Swim Center and to prevent accidents through expertise in lifesaving techniques, proper equipment usage, and a strong sense of awareness and responsibility. Lifeguards are expected to work during operational hours, special events, and rentals, while also providing courteous assistance to the public regarding aquatic inquiries. This part-time position is available throughout the academic year and summer.

Responsibilities

Job Duty Function
Ensure the safety of patrons at the University of Idaho Swim Center by:

Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Maintaining current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification and CPR:PR Certification;
  • Constantly monitoring patrons within the facility;
  • Responding promptly and appropriately to ensure patron safety during emergencies;
  • Providing emergency care and treatment until emergency medical services arrive;
  • Participating in all in-service meetings and training sessions.

Position Qualifications

Required Qualifications
Must possess:
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or equivalent;
  • Current American Red Cross CPR:PR Certification;
  • Proficiency in lifesaving surveillance and rescue techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as a lifeguard.
Previous work experience should demonstrate the ability to:
  • Engage effectively with the public;
  • Communicate clearly;
  • Enforce regulations fairly and courteously;
  • Collaborate successfully as part of a team;
  • Exercise sound judgment in public relations and emergency situations;
  • Understand safety rules and regulations and show willingness to enforce them;
  • Deliver excellent customer service.
