Job Summary

The Service Technician is a key member of our team, responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing vehicles to the highest standards. As a skilled technician, you will use diagnostic tools to identify problems and make adjustments or repairs, ensuring that all critical parts are examined and functioning properly.

Essential Functions
  • Identify mechanical problems using visual inspection and computer diagnostic equipment.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance, including oil changes and tune-ups.
  • Diagnose the cause of malfunctions and perform work specified on the repair order with efficiency and in accordance with dealership and/or factory standards.
  • Repair or replace all parts of a vehicle, including wheels, axles, frames, and brake shoes.
  • Install and repair air conditioners and service components such as compressors, condensers, and controls.
  • Test electronic computer components in automobiles to ensure they are working properly.
  • Communicate directly with the Service Advisor to inform customers of any additional service needed.
  • Provide an estimate of time needed for additional repairs.
  • Inspect and test new vehicles for damage and record findings to ensure necessary repairs are made.
  • Supervise and train apprentice or entry-level technicians.
  • Repair or replace malfunctioning parts and systems, such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts.
  • Perform further tests, including test driving the vehicle, to ensure repairs are completed correctly.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience as an entry-level automotive technician.
  • Valid Driver's license and safe driving record; required to have California within 30 days.
  • Ability to regularly lift 30 pounds; occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Technicians must keep abreast of federal, state, and local regulations that affect their operations and comply with these regulations as well as hazardous waste disposal and OSHA policies.
  • Ability to perform all essential functions of the job description.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least one National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification in the eight automotive specialty areas.
  • Extensive knowledge of all aspects of vehicle repair and mechanical skills.
  • Excellent technical and customer service skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read work orders and perform repairs in a timely fashion.
  • Ability to visually diagnose mechanical issues.
  • Proficient with computer diagnostic equipment and software.
  • Ability to read service and repair manuals.
Physical Demands
  • Regularly stands, walks, sits; uses hands; reaches with hands and arms; talks and hears. Occasionally climbs or balances; bend, stretch, stoops, kneels, crouches, squats or crawls to perform repairs and inspections; must lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to inspect vehicles to determine repairs needed.
  • Good vision to inspect repair work.
Environment/Noise
  • Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.
