Role Overview:

As a Financial Counselor within the Financial Clearance Unit at Moffitt Cancer Center, you will serve as the primary liaison for patients and their families regarding financial matters. Your role will involve assisting patients who may be uninsured, under-insured, or facing limitations with their insurance policies by offering them various financial solutions. You will also be responsible for collecting estimated patient balances prior to service and determining eligibility for community assistance programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct financial screenings and identify options for new patients.
  • Collect estimated balances for both new and returning patients.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and assist in reducing the self-pay patient population.
  • Perform pre-registration for uninsured patients.
  • Verify insurance benefits and refer patients to copay assistance programs.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with stakeholders.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A solid understanding of patient registration, insurance benefits, and financial assistance processes.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to empathize with patients.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the capacity to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills and a quick adaptability to new technologies.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Education and Experience:

Applicants should have an Associate's Degree or, in lieu of this, a High School Diploma/GED with additional relevant experience in revenue cycle functions such as collections, registration, or insurance verification. A minimum of three years of experience in a healthcare setting is required, with certification as a Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRRC) expected within six months of hire.
