You will report to the Plasma Center Manager and function as a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) to assist in the operations of the plasma center.

Role Responsibilities:

Daily, the donors you meet will drive your motivation. The premium plasma you collect will contribute to life-altering treatments. A strong commitment to customer service and quality is essential. You will assess donor eligibility for plasma donation, manage donor adverse reactions, review laboratory test outcomes, and inform donors of any unsuitable test results. The Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) operates under the direction of the Center Manager (or Assistant Manager as applicable) for operational guidance and under the supervision of the Center Physician for medical concerns. Familiarity with regulations governing the plasma collection industry or a manufacturing setting is expected. The Medical Support Specialist adheres to guidelines provided by BioLife Medical Affairs and supports center-level environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives.

Key Contributions:

  • Assess donor eligibility, including informed consent management, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history interviews, physical examinations, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
  • Evaluate donor reactions occurring at the facility as per established SOPs. Follow relevant SOPs for medical emergencies, including the development of standing orders from the Center Physician and facilitating donor transport to emergency care facilities.
  • Consult with the Center Physician or Medical Affairs (as applicable) when needing to communicate unacceptable findings to donors or seek guidance on medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility.
  • Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination initiatives for employees as applicable.
  • Manage employee incidents and assess whether further evaluation is necessary by occupational health/ER. Refer to EHS guidance regarding employee incidents.
  • Serve as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and assist in investigations related to pandemic threats within the local community as indicated by EHS or Medical Affairs.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, including completion of a recognized educational nursing program meeting state requirements.
  • Current licensure or certification in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: EMT-Paramedic.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
  • Fulfill state requirements (in state of licensure) for basic IV therapy.
  • Successfully complete the FDA-approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
  • Two years of experience in a clinical or hospital environment.
