You will report to the Plasma Center Manager and function as a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) to facilitate plasma center operations.
Role Responsibilities:
Each day, the donors you meet will drive your motivation. The premium plasma you collect will lead to transformative medicines. A dedication to customer service and quality is paramount. You will assess donor eligibility for plasma donation, manage donor adverse reactions, review laboratory test outcomes, and inform donors of any unsuitable test results. The Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) operates under the direction of the Center Manager (or Assistant Manager) for operational matters and under the supervision of the Center Physician for medical concerns. Familiarity with plasma collection industry regulations or a manufacturing environment is expected. The Medical Support Specialist adheres to guidance from BioLife Medical Affairs and provides support for environmental, health, and safety (EHS) at the center level.
Your Contributions:
- Assess donor eligibility, including informed consent management, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history interviews, physical examinations, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
- Evaluate donor reactions occurring at the facility as per the standard operating procedures (SOPs). Adhere to SOPs for medical emergencies, including the establishment of standing orders from the Center Physician and coordinating donor transport to emergency care facilities.
- Consult with the Center Physician or Medical Affairs as needed to communicate unacceptable findings to donors or for guidance on medical or technical issues, ensuring donor safety and eligibility.
- Support the Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination initiatives for employees as applicable.
- Manage employee incidents and determine if further evaluation is necessary by occupational health or emergency response.
- Serve as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and assist with investigations related to pandemic threats within the local community as directed by EHS or Medical Affairs.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent, including completion of a recognized educational nursing program meeting state requirements.
- Current licensure or certification in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: EMT-Paramedic.
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
- Meet state requirements for basic IV therapy.
- Successfully complete the FDA-approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
- Two years of experience in a clinical or hospital environment.
