Ultrasound Technologist Job Description

Advocate Aurora Health is seeking a skilled Ultrasound Technologist to join our team in Hartford, Wisconsin.

Job Summary

We are looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented Ultrasound Technologist to perform general, vascular, and cardiac procedures/studies using ultrasound equipment. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to work independently, and prioritize tasks effectively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate ultrasound equipment to perform procedures/studies, accurately differentiating between normal and pathologic findings.
  • Review patient medical records to obtain necessary clinical information, including patient history, lab results, and physician orders.
  • Position patients and select proper transducers and technical factors for accurate ultrasound procedures.
  • Adjust factors to attain the appropriate images, ensuring safety, mental, and physical comfort of patients.
  • Use cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information, and images.
  • Maintain records in accordance with various regulatory agencies and enter patient and study information into the radiology information system.
  • Identify equipment performance issues, communicate to appropriate staff, and evaluate new products and equipment for possible future use.
  • Analyze sonograms, synthesize sonographic information, and medical history, and communicate findings to the appropriate physician.
Requirements
  • Medical Sonographer (RDMS) registration with Abdomen issued by the American Registry of Diagnostic Med Sonography (ARDMS) within 3 months.
  • Medical Sonographer (RDMS) registration with OB/GYN issued by the American Registry of Diagnostic Med Sonography (ARDMS) within 3 months.
  • Vascular Technologist (RVT) registration issued by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) within 3 months.
  • Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS-AE) registration with Adult Echo issued by the ARDMS within 18 months.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 6 months.
  • Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Sonography.
Working Conditions

The Ultrasound Technologist will work in a fast-paced environment, performing procedures/studies, and maintaining accurate records. The ideal candidate will be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, and twist throughout the workday. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs. over the head, and carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.

May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiation hazards as well as blood and body fluids; therefore, personal protective equipment must be worn as necessary.

Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
