The Shop Foreman / Lead Technician plays a crucial role in overseeing the workflow and task allocation among the automotive technicians. This position collaborates closely with the Service Manager to ensure high-quality service on customer vehicles and optimize shop operations.
We seek technicians who are enthusiastic, proactive, and possess a positive mindset. Ideal candidates should be adept at finding solutions to complex issues and have a strong commitment to customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with the service department to assign tasks to technicians.
- Oversee individual technician workloads and manage overall workflow in the service area.
- Guide technician team progress through training requirements and mentor technicians for certification readiness.
- Train and support new technicians.
- Assist technicians in diagnosing and repairing vehicles as needed.
- Conduct performance evaluations to monitor career development and technician performance.
- Organize team-building activities for technicians.
- Educate the technician team on maintaining brand and quality standards to effectively address customer concerns.
- Manage shop supplies and equipment.
- Monitor fluid levels and shop efficiency through technician hours reports.
- Oversee housekeeping tasks to promote safety, cleanliness, and organization.
- Manage technician schedules and enforce safety protocols.
- Collaborate with the service department to communicate customer concerns and assist in resolving complaints.
Qualifications:
- Positive attitude and commitment to customer service.
- 7+ years of experience as an automotive technician.
- Exceptional automotive diagnostic abilities.
- Significant investment in personal tools.
- Ability to flag 30+ hours per week based on shop requirements.
- ASE A1-A8 Certifications required; Master L1 preferred.
- Proficient in diagnosing and repairing various makes and models of vehicles.
- Meet or exceed productivity goals.
- Aptitude for acquiring new skills and processes.
- Professional demeanor and strong communication skills.
- Desire for long-term career advancement.
Physical Requirements:
- Occasionally lift and/or move over 50 pounds.
- Ability to work with tools on elevated vehicles.
- Work in confined spaces as required by vehicle repairs.
- Dexterity to efficiently use hand tools.
- Stand or walk for the majority of the workday.
- Drive manual transmission vehicles.
- Proficiently navigate a computer.
