Flood Crisis Counselor

Northeast Kingdom Human Services Inc is seeking a dedicated Flood Crisis Counselor to support community-based outreach, counseling, and linkage to essential services for those impacted by the 2023 and 2024 flooding in Vermont.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide emotional support and reduce stress for disaster survivors
  • Assist survivors in reviewing their disaster recovery options and promoting the use of coping strategies
  • Connect survivors with other people and agencies who can help them in their recovery process
  • Provide outreach to impacted members of the community and lead promotion of the program
  • Record data on all activities and report weekly
  • Attend meetings as required
Qualifications:
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations, such as people experiencing homelessness or living with mental health and/or substance use disorders
  • Excellent communication and active listening skills
  • Comfort with and willingness to provide outreach and support in person
  • Empathy and compassion toward others
  • Ability to work independently and flexibility to adapt to changing situations
