Job Overview: The Data Center Engineer with a focus on hardware will oversee the installation, upkeep, and troubleshooting of hardware within our data centers. This position necessitates a comprehensive understanding of server hardware, storage solutions, networking devices, and other physical components. The ideal candidate will guarantee the reliability, performance, and scalability of the data center hardware infrastructure.

Core Responsibilities:

Hardware Installation and Setup:

  • Execute the installation and configuration of servers, storage solutions, and networking devices.
  • Rack, stack, and connect hardware equipment adhering to industry best practices.
  • Ensure all hardware components are accurately labeled and documented.

Maintenance and Issue Resolution:

  • Conduct regular maintenance and health assessments on data center hardware.
  • Diagnose and rectify hardware issues swiftly to minimize operational downtime.
  • Replace defective components such as hard drives, memory modules, and power supplies.

Capacity Management and Enhancement:

  • Monitor hardware utilization and performance indicators.
  • Assist in capacity management to ensure hardware resources align with current and anticipated demands.
  • Enhance hardware configurations for optimal efficiency and performance.

Hardware Inventory Oversight:

  • Maintain a precise inventory of all data center hardware.
  • Track hardware assets, including serial numbers, warranty status, and lifecycle details.
  • Manage the decommissioning and disposal of hardware in accordance with company policies and environmental regulations.

Collaboration and Technical Support:

  • Collaborate closely with network engineers, system administrators, and other IT personnel to support data center operations.
  • Provide technical guidance and assistance for hardware-related projects and initiatives.
  • Support data center relocations, expansions, and upgrades.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of hardware configurations, installations, and maintenance activities.
  • Generate reports on hardware performance, issues, and resolutions.
  • Ensure all hardware documentation is current and easily accessible.

Essential Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements

· 10+ years of direct engineering and design experience, specializing in creating repeatable, reliable, and scalable applications and systems, with a focus on fault tolerance, performance optimization, monitoring systems, metrics collection, and disaster recovery.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills essential for effective collaboration with peers, end users, management, and vendors.

· Relevant certifications (Microsoft, Cisco, Citrix, VMware) are advantageous.
