Job SummaryThe ELS Substitute Instructor is responsible for planning, teaching, and evaluating assigned classes in accordance with the ELS curriculum. This role requires a strong ability to adapt to new situations and work independently, with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities- Teach SSP, Vocabulary Enrichment, Reading/Writing, LTC, and/or Skills Enhancement Classes as assigned.
- Prepare lesson plans, exercises, and tests.
- Test, evaluate, and counsel students regarding their classroom performance.
- Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Coordinate instruction, attendance records, and evaluation with other teachers.
- Know and adhere to Center and Company policy and procedures.
- Complete administrative paperwork as required or requested.
- Maintain performance and attendance records.
- Maintain Center resource materials and files.
- Observe other teachers for purposes of professional development.
- Participate in administrative meetings and professional development activities.
- Participate in the employee evaluation process.
- Provide assistance to Associate Instructors.
- Develop and/or refine teaching materials at the local level.
- Participate in activities during scheduled class hours.
- Contribute to the maintenance of neat classrooms and staff areas.
- Bachelor's degree in English or a related field.
- Preferred: Certificate or better in CELTA or related field.
- Preferred: Certificate or better in TESOL or related field.
- Preferred: Master's degree in Applied Linguistics or related field.
- Preferred: Master's degree in TESOL or related field.
- A minimum of months of ELS teaching experience for those who do not have an MA in TESOL or CELTA.
- All ELS employees must be a minimum of years of age.
