This part-time position (24 hours per week; 0.6 FTE) involves working straight nights (12 hour shifts) and every 3rd weekend. The role is benefit-eligible.

Job Description:

As a Mental Health Coordinator Senior, you will be a vital member of our mental health team. Your focus will be on meeting the patients' needs and ensuring a smooth healthcare experience. You will provide direct physical care, emotional support, and educational resources to Mental Health patients under the supervision of the RN.

Responsibilities:

  • Safety Activities:
    • Collect and document patient data and observations.
    • Communicate changes in patient health status to the RN.
    • Report observations of patient potential for violence towards self or others.
    • Alert nurse to extra pyramidal side effects.
    • Use the nurse call and door release systems correctly.
    • Provide a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff.
  • Patient Care Activities:
    • Assist with activities of daily living.
    • Recognize escalating behaviors and attempt to redirect/refocus.
    • Participate in development of treatment plans and interventions.
    • Collect assessment data through interviews, 1:1, and group interactions/observation.
    • Observe physical, psychological, and safety status of patient and unit on an ongoing basis.
    • Assist patient in establishing therapeutic goals.
    • Facilitate therapeutic interventions through structured activities, education, or counseling.
    • Develop, implement, and evaluate plan of care based on individual/family assessment.
    • Monitor vital signs and report observations.
    • Assist with admissions and discharges.
    • Collect specimens from patients as delegated.
    • Report abnormal findings to RN.
    • Facilitate/co-facilitate groups and/or activities as delegated.
    • Verbalize understanding of role for patients with legal holds/commitments and issuing patient rights.
  • Role Model/Team Work Activities:
    • Participate in staff meetings and task groups.
    • Maintain professional appearance.
    • Verbalize knowledge of mental health diagnosis, including mood disorders, personality disorders, thought disorders, anxiety disorders, and substance abuse.
    • Demonstrate appropriate application of limb restraints.
  • Other Duties:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in social/psychological or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in mental health/substance abuse patient care.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • BLS Tier 1 - Basic Life Support - Multisource required.
  • Code Green required within 60 days.

Physical Demands:

  • Medium Work*: Lifting weight up to 32 lbs. occasionally, up to 25 lbs. frequently.
