Job Summary

Dr. Richard Izquierdo Health & Science Charter School is seeking a certified, or on the pathway to, and experienced special education teacher to provide instruction to our high school students in the areas of Science and Math.

Key Responsibilities
  • Content Knowledge and Planning
    • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that cater to the unique needs of students with special needs.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to design and deliver engaging lesson plans that meet the academic and social needs of students.
    • Stay up-to-date with curriculum developments and best practices in special education.
    • Use technology to enhance instruction and support student learning.
    • Develop and maintain accurate records of student progress and performance.
  • Instructional Strategies
    • Implement small group instruction and other alternative teaching models to support students with special needs.
    • Use a variety of instructional strategies to engage students and promote learning, including modeling, cooperative learning, and technology integration.
    • Monitor student progress and adjust instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
    • Provide opportunities for students to participate actively and successfully in the learning process.
    • Explain complex concepts in a clear and concise manner to meet the needs of all students.
  • Assessment
    • Use a variety of assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction as needed.
    • Develop and administer teacher-made and standardized tests to measure student performance.
    • Use oral, non-verbal, and written forms of student assessment to inform instruction.
    • Organize and maintain accurate records of student progress and performance.
    • Provide meaningful feedback to students and parents to support student learning.

  • Qualifications
    • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree in Science or Math preferred.
    • NYS certification in Special Education preferred (must be on the pathway).
    • At least 2 years prior teaching experience in middle school preferred.
    • Demonstrated success working in non-traditional and/or urban school settings.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Experience with educational technology.
