Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our team at Hutchinson Clinic. As a Peri-Operative Nurse, you will be responsible for providing safe, quality patient care in the Peri-Operative Unit (Pre-Op, Recovery, and Operating Room).

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess patient status on admission to the pre-op area, the operating room, and/or the post-op area, on a continuing basis.
  • Provide assistance during surgical procedures and ensure safe working practices.
  • Set, monitor, and maintain excellent standards of nursing care.
  • Safely carry out physicians' orders correctly and promptly, documenting all activities.
  • Maintain personal contact with patients and relatives, being sensitive to their needs for courtesy, dignity, and privacy.
  • Maintain timely and accurate nursing records and ensure that confidentiality is respected.
  • Store, check, and administer medication in accordance with established standards and guidelines.
  • Work with minimal supervision during surgical procedures, admission, and recovery of patients and other related procedures.
  • Contribute to the local resolution, investigation, and follow-up action of any informal or formal grievances.
  • Take part in pre and post-op phone calls and communicate any problems to the supervisor.
  • Maintain competencies in conscious sedation administration and monitoring of sedated patients, including airway protection, assessment, and support of sedated patients.
  • Ensure the safe discharge of all patients from the Surgical Unit.
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment within the clinical and surgical area in accordance with established standards and regulations.
  • Assist anesthesia with set up and tear down of anesthesia and monitoring equipment.
  • Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for professional practice and continued professional growth. Attend all in-services and meetings as appropriate.
Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in an RN-related healthcare position.
  • Must be a licensed registered nurse (RN) in the state of Kansas.

BLS, ACLS, and PALS are required. Other skills include the ability to care for patients undergoing surgical procedures, provide technical and nursing assistance during such procedures, and correlate clinical data with nursing care.

Physical Requirements
  • Occasionally lift or carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires full range of body motion.
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and toxic substances.
