Speech Language Specialist

At Polk County Public Schools, we are seeking a skilled Speech Language Specialist to join our team. This role ensures that students with communication delays or disorders receive appropriate speech-language services for a Free and Appropriate Public Education.
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Communication Science Disorders from an accredited educational institute and be certified or licensed to practice in the state of Florida. Experience in public schools is highly desirable.
Responsibilities:
- Provides resources and training to educators and parents to prevent the onset of communication disorders.
- Leads the team in identifying students who may need speech and language assessments and determines a continuum of intervention strategies.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Ability to work cooperatively with parents, school districts, and agencies.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with students, teams, and groups.
- Ability to administer testing instruments and possess knowledge of child development.
Estimated Salary Range: $55,000 - $75,000 per year

Work Context:
This position requires sitting, standing, walking, and moving about to coordinate work. Uses alternative communication systems, such as electronic mail, telephones, and computers. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals, and meet deadlines. Face-to-face discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams required.
Physical Environment:
Works indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. May require working outdoors with exposure to outdoor elements including weather changes, foliage, insects, etc. Sit, stand, and lift objects frequently weighing up to 20 pounds and infrequently weighing more than 20 pounds.
