Job Summary:

The Laundry Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the activities of laundry employees engaged in the Wash and Finish process of linens and other hospital articles in accordance with established procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise laundry employees in planning, organizing, and monitoring activities such as collecting soiled laundry, weighing and sorting laundry, washing, and extracting, drying, ironing, wrapping, folding, and mending to achieve maximum results.
  • Assign employees to routine tasks and observe their performance of duties, demonstrating techniques to improve production and maintain workflow.
  • Ensure laundry is sorted according to volume, degree of stain or soil, and types of articles, segregating heavily stained articles for prewashing and loading the washer to designated capacity.
  • Verify that water is heated to the proper degree to reduce soil and infection and that proper amounts of detergents, bleach, and/or bluing are added according to treatment required.
  • Inspect wash at various stages for cleanness and recommend changes in washing and rinsing procedures to effect a clean, sanitary wash.
  • Orient and instruct new employees on the importance of adhering to prescribed methods, techniques, and procedures to avoid the spread of infection.
  • Ensure employees receive orientation in the use of supplies and equipment by demonstrating use and explaining operating techniques.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of supplies.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent plus a minimum of two years of experience in the washing and finishing section of a laundry.
  • POSITION PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must possess the physical ability needed to exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally; and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently; and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
