We are seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic Naturalist to join our team at Allen Marine Inc. As a Naturalist, you will be responsible for developing and delivering engaging tour narratives, conducting natural history presentations, and providing exceptional customer service to our passengers.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and deliver engaging tour narratives that highlight the natural history, wildlife, and cultural significance of Southeast Alaska.
- Conduct natural history presentations to groups of up to 150 passengers, using a variety of mediums and techniques to convey information and inspire curiosity.
- Provide exceptional customer service, responding to passenger inquiries and concerns in a professional and courteous manner.
- Work collaboratively with other crew members to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all passengers.
- Participate in vessel duties, including line handling, docking, and undocking, as well as maintaining the vessel's appearance, cleanliness, and safety.
- Certifications in CPR/FA and Alaska Food Handlers card required prior to first day of employment.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with up to 150 passengers on a P.A. system.
- Must be able to learn and retain pertinent background material provided on board, for presentation to passengers.
- Must be able to work as a team with other crew to present coordinated narration and a quality experience for customers.
- Must be drug-free and willing to participate in random drug testing.
- Prior experience working on passenger-carrying vessels.
- Extensive public speaking experience.
- Biology and/or natural resource background.
- College degree in natural resources or biology.
- Experience working as a naturalist, guide, or related position.
Ability to work flexible schedule to include weekends and holidays. Days off will be scheduled, but must be willing to be flexible in meeting tour demand.
Physical demands include moderate to loud noise levels, all weather conditions, frequent use of required protective clothing, and ability to walk on uneven deck surfaces.
