Job Summary

As a Deckhand with Allen Marine Inc, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe operation and maintenance of our vessels. Under the direction of the Chief Mate, you will execute duties that require attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a commitment to providing exceptional guest service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in mooring and unmooring procedures, handling lines and anchors as directed by the Chief Mate.
  • Perform watch duties while underway, anchored, or in port, as assigned by the Chief Mate.
  • Participate in emergency drills and actual emergencies, including fire, flooding, man overboard, abandon ship, medical, and spill response.
  • Perform a variety of tasks as assigned by the Chief Mate, including janitorial duties, upkeep and maintenance of the vessel, and guest services.
  • Assist in engineering and security rounds as directed by the Chief Mate and Chief Engineer.
  • Provide exceptional guest service, interacting with guests in a friendly and courteous manner, and assisting with embarkation and disembarkation.
  • Enhance the guest experience by actively searching for wildlife and bringing sightings to the attention of the officer on watch and the Naturalist.
  • Operate small inflatable tenders and DIBs as directed by the Chief Mate, ensuring safe operation and daily upkeep.
Requirements
  • 1-3 years of experience in the maritime industry, with progressively responsible experience.
  • Strong communication skills, verbal, non-verbal, and written.
  • Ability to take directions and work with a diverse team.
  • Ability to interpret and follow rules, policy, and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain composure with a courteous and professional demeanor.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification.
Work Environment

The work environment is fast-paced and dynamic, with a diverse workforce. Crew members stay in shared quarters onboard, with limited privacy and constant vibration and engine noise. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Physical Demands

The physical demands of this role include working a typical workday of 10-14 hours, seven days a week, with occasional lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds. Ability to walk on uneven deck surfaces, climb a 7-foot vertical ladder, and fit through a 28-inch escape hatch.
