Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Youth Counselor to provide a safe and supportive environment for teens in our care. Your role will be to promote positive interaction, provide life skills, social skills, and other enrichment activities in our Emergency Shelter located in Monroe. You will have the opportunity to build supportive relationships with clients, model healthy boundaries, and work alongside them in a residential setting.

Responsibilities
* Build supportive relationships with youth and staff using a positive and collaborative approach
* Maintain and model healthy boundaries with youth while accepting a variety of lifestyles, behaviors, and cultural and spiritual practices
* Assess emergency situations, gather pertinent information, and provide proper support, adhering to mandating reporting and licensing policies and procedures
* De-escalate youth in crises, utilizing anti-racist, inclusive, equity-based, and trauma-informed care in all interactions
* Process intakes and exits for youth, provide orientation to incoming youth, and enter required data for proper recordkeeping
* Partner with case managers to support youth case plans and communicate effectively regarding established plans, maintaining logs and forms as needed
* Supervise youth in the program, ensuring safety while holding them accountable to policies, guidelines, and rules by assigning consequences collaboratively with fellow staff
* Assist, demonstrate, and teach youth household tasks and maintain cleanliness of facilities
* Provide meals including grocery shopping, planning, and cooking, arranging appointments, filling prescriptions, and dispensing medication for youth as needed
* Communicate with other providers to ensure youth follow commitments, responding to community calls, drop-ins, and referrals with appropriate information and directions
* Participate in enrichment activities programming and planning with fellow staff and provide information and directions for off-site services to youth
* Transport youth to appointments when necessary

Requirements
* High school diploma/GED or high school equivalency
* Must be 21 years of age or older
* 6 months minimum of experience working with youth
* DCYF background clearance
* Acceptable driver's abstract with no more than 2 violations within last 3 years
* Valid driver's license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation
* Ability to lift up to 50 Ibs and run up and down indoor and outdoor stairwells in case of youth emergency
