A Typical Day

The Sanitation Technician is accountable for equipment shutdown, preparation, cleaning, and verifying the cleanliness of various machinery according to the Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP).

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and document all Plant Clean-in-Place (CIP) systems, including daily CIP of multiple line circuits and SCM belts.
  • Ensure proper labeling of all chemical tanks, day drums, and jugs.
  • Maintain and monitor gaskets and valves throughout the facility.
  • Prepare cheese equipment for pre-operation shutdown.
  • Collaborate with plant operators on CIP-related issues.
  • Fulfill specified cleaning and documentation as outlined in the Master Sanitation Schedule.
  • Work alongside plant, Quality Assurance, and Ecolab personnel to guarantee effective cleaning of all equipment.
  • Conduct post-CIP equipment inspections and facility inspections to confirm cleanliness.
  • Identify flows from High-Temperature Short-Time (HTST) to packaging, including completing Product Transitions.
  • Troubleshoot and communicate any plant issues related to equipment and processes.
  • Notify management and maintenance of any equipment or process problems that could impact Safety, Food Safety, or quality.
  • Learn and operate computer-related processes and controls.
  • Actively participate in your training and development program, including associated activities, classes, and events, which may occur before, during, or after shifts and on scheduled days off.
  • Assist in coaching and training colleagues and participate in on-the-job buddy training.
  • Prioritize food safety and sanitation by understanding and executing the company's food safety and sanitation policies and procedures. This includes reporting any food safety incidents, observations, or opportunities to your leadership team or colleagues, as well as participating in food safety and sanitation root cause analysis and improvement activities when necessary.
  • Emphasize safety above all other job duties by maintaining a safety-first approach at all times. This includes reporting any safety issues, observations, or opportunities to your teams and following up.
Requirements
  • Proficient English skills to understand, read, write, and speak English.
  • Ability to work 12-hour variable shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Capability to lift up to 60 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in a level 1 or 2 role in cheese operations for at least 6 months, or 1 year of manufacturing experience.
  • Familiarity with dairy plant sanitation practices.
  • SAP experience.
  • State-issued Pasteurizer License (if applicable).
  • Active or past member of the department safety team.
  • Completion of a cheese short course.
